Re: Hunting Checklist?
A good headlamp is also a godsend. I have a couple with green led's and a high intensity white led and use them all the time. They work for going in before first light or coming out after dark and the batteries last forever.

Re: Hunting Checklist?
you need a pen now to fill out your tag before putting in ear.

Re: Hunting Checklist?
gutting glove. This ear plug thing is puzzling to me Unless you are hunting in a closed blind, ear plugs I question. I believe it is a safety issue also you need your ears for safety.

Re: Hunting Checklist?
My back pack always has a small roll of toilet paper in a zip lock baggie....
Don't need the ear plugs unless you plan on target shooting.
As others mentioned, small hand held flashlight and a headlamp are must-haves.

Re: Hunting Checklist?
Skip the wire and carry an extra license holder, when you down that buck fill out your tag, put it in the license holder, and pin it in the ear. No need to worry about it ripping out, snow or rain making your ink bleed, etc. And if for some reason it does come out an orange license holder is much easier to find then a small silver tag.
Skip the ear plugs, when it comes time to take the shot your not going to have time to put them in, and your not going to notice the sound or recoil.
Maybe want to carry a radio, lots of guys use them while hunting and if you do happen to get lost and your cell doesn't work you can always scan channels.
Check out a product called the Butt Out - made by Hunters Specialties - it makes taking care of the deers rear end a breeze.Last edited by keystoneman 85; December 18th, 2010 at 11:21 AM.

Re: Hunting Checklist?
I don't see binoculars on your list. That is one of the first things I set out when packing.
I assume this is what you carry to the woods, not a packing list for camp. Why carry a small backpack when you have a coat with lots of pockets? Why not just use the scent killer before you go out? Unless I'm handgun hunting I don't use ear plugs in the woods nor do I take the digest. And only one knife. I'd prefer to leave the damn cell phone at home too but it's a small price to pay for keeping the wife happy.
I use a good size rubber band for attaching tags, it goes right in the license holder until I need it. I take a few paper towels instead of the TP. I find it better for cleaning my hands after gutting a deer (no dressing gloves here) than TP does. It's rougher on the backside than TP but I've cleaned a lot more deer than I've taken dumps in the woods.

Re: Hunting Checklist?
If your hunting from a treestand don't forget paracord for pulling up your gun or bow and your safety harness of course.
