Default Aiming xdm 9mm 3.8 compact

I'm not sure if this is the right spot to post this question. I just bought a new Springfield pistol. Set up a target at 25'. With a steady hand and smooth tigger pull most of my shots land 8 " off to the lower left of the bulls eye. The sights are not adjustable. And I am using Winchester FMJ target rounds. Is it me or is this normal for a short barrel pistol? It does give a good kick. I just wish the sights could be adjusted. So to compensate I try to aim to the upper right. Any one else have this problem?

I'm willing to bet it's you. Practice should correct this issue. Try having someone else shoot it too and see how they do.

Sounds like your flinching - that's classic low left

Let someone else shoot the gun to confirm before you do anything drastic.

Actually sounds like not enough trigger finger...you're pushing the gun

Have you tried shooting from a bench rest? That might help you determine if its you or the gun. When I first started shooting my XD .40 I had the same results and referenced a chart similar to the one given by CHEMICAL. Turns out the problem was me! I'd venture to say my XD is more accurate than I'll ever be. Keep on practicing!

I had a similar problem with my XDM9. It was me not the gun. Anticipating recoil makes you want to push down on the gun before getting through the trigger.

My recommendation is to dry fire, dry fire, dry fire. Load up three bullets and fire them. Then dry fire, dry fire, dry fire and load up a few more rounds and live fire again. Rinse, lather, repeat a few more times and you should see an improvement.

If your problem is too little trigger finger, the dry fire may help you past this.

The other recommendation I have is to get yourself to an indoor range that you can start out at 3 yards. Get them centered at 3 yards then work out to 5 yards then 7, then further. If you are having problems at 25 feet, come in close, work out the bugs, then go out further.
