    Default 1911 FTE issue

I have a brand new Magnum Research 1911 and I am using two Wilson Combat eight round magazines.

First off, the gun is a tack driver. VERY impressed with how accurate it is, and how tight and nicely the fit is.

However, here's the issue. We ran the magazines four times each (eight total). On BOTH magazines, all four times each, the 7th round would not eject, hanging up the 8th round, with the spent case still hooked to the extractor. One time, it was the fifth or sixth round that hung up, but every other time, it was the 7th round that did this.

Tonight, I'm going to do another break-down, re-clean and lube, and try again. If it happens again, do you think this is an extractor issue? Should I bother sending it back, or just fix it on my own dime? I've never had an issue with a Wilson Combat magazine, and both were brand new magazines.

    Thank you much!

    It's a 5" .45 ACP 1911 design, not a .50 AE.

Sounds more like the ejector is not kicking the brass out. Check to see if its broke. If so , I would return it. May not have an extended ejector. Check to see if your Magazine lips are allow the rounds to come up too high, putting pressure on the empty and holding it in the extractor.

    Try different Mags First...

What you just described fits. When it happens, the empty is held pretty firmly in place, I have to drop the mag to get it out.

Yes, a full size 1911 Desert Eagle.

The stock mag is a 7 rd'er. Use it, repeatedly, to see if it displays the same problem.

I will tonight, but the two stock mags that came with mine are 8 rounders.

Load rounds into the mags now, also into the Wilsons. This will pre-load the springs, since everything is new.

But use the stock mags only.

Odd, this 1911 lists their mags as 7 rd'ers on the website.

I have two Wilson 47D's that give me this malfunction to no end.......

Sure sounds like a mag issue with the 7th round only hanging up.

So I got home from work, and this time, instead of a quickie cleaning and oiling, i did a complete stripping and degreasing and oiling. I used Winchester Powder Blast and a few drops of Hoppes, got it nice and shiney, and then back to the range I go. I didn't just grab the mags it came with, I also grabbed a Kimber, Smith and Wesson, three Wilsons, and the two 8 rounders it came with. I loaded up all eight 8 round mags, posted a target, and unloaded them all, one by one, in about five minutes. Rapid firing, slow firing, limp wrist firing, normal firing. Zero malfunctions, and it ran like a champ. And it's accurate as hell, too. I'll do this a few more times, but otherwise, this one is a keeper, and I think the problem is solved, I just missed some packing grease or whatever they coat it in before shipment from Israel.

(By the way, I originally cross-posted this on m1911.org, for more suggestions.)
