Stolen Gun from WI
I was wondering if anybody can help me with this::
My wifes uncle stole 2 guns from his fathers house in WI. He lives in PA near me. His mother wants the guns back. Does anybody know what legal actions could be takin to return the guns. He brought the guns back to PA from WI via car. She didnt realize he stole the guns till about a month after he left. Thanks

Rules are written in the stone,
Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

The uncle committed a Federal felony [(18 USC 922(a)(3)] when he brought the guns into Pa.
You could contact the uncle and explain this fact to him.
You could also contact BATFE to see if they are interested.IANAL

Your wife's uncle could be in serious trouble (IANAL) and you have had a couple of valid suggestions. It would seem however that your relationship with your wife's family is about to change significantly.

Re: Stolen Gun from WI
If by legal you mean involving law enforcement, the theft has to be reported in WI. They will notify the police back here and the locals will take possession of the guns till a court sorts it out. I don't know how the interstate travel of the guns comes into play with ATF but expect it at some point.
I can't speak of the legalities of this idea but, it seems to me the owner could come to PA, retrieve her possessions and return to WI with them. More knowledgable people might have a sharper take on this notion. If this comes to pass, be sure your aware of interstate travel regs and laws for firearms. She can fly or drive with the guns, but has to follow laws to do so.When the SHTF......be the fan.

Sounds more like a family misunderstanding where a Father told a Son years ago he could have X firearm(s) if and when he wanted them or upon the death of said Father. Mother, not knowing about this, is now upset with son who lives in PA. Yup, happens all the time.
For the Uncle (Son)to have stolen the guns, he would have had to have a clear line of thought for taking the guns, Mens Rea type thing.
