    Unhappy Negligent Discharge

Well fellas I'm severely disgusted with myself. I sat home after a weekend at the range and drank a few beers and decided to clean my gun on the couch. I will simply say I'm the cause. I cleared my glock dropped the mag and cleaned it. Then came time for my junker pistol the SW40VE to be cleaned. I dropped the mag and pulled the slide back in a stupid mistake not visually clearing my weapon just trusted mechanics very dumb I know. Can't tell you what I was thinking. But anyway I pulled down on the release to take the slide off and pulled the trigger to release the slide of the pistol and to my surprise BOOM!...all I can say is at least I didn't forget muzzle discipline being that I put a round into nothing but the cheap entertainment stand right in the metal knob then part of the HP traveled threw to the drywall but did not penetrate. Prior to this I prided myself on the fact that in 6yrs of military service and 2 deployments (Lots of clearing of weapons I never had an ND) I guess I'm sharing my mishap to stress the fact that never get cocky when working with a weapon no matter how familiar you are. Respect every firearm and don't ever forget that it could have easily gone another way

This is why you dont mix beer n guns, or ugly women n beer. One could result with a hole in the head, and the other a bun in the oven.

Seriously, glad to hear your ok...

so, hollow points are pretty safe to use in a home (in a self defense situation).

thanks for posting your story, you may save someone here from doing the same thing.

Based on unfortunate carelessness on my part I can definately confirm from experience that as far as penetration in a home is concerned they appear to be very "safe" to use without collateral (by collateral I'm talking neighbor like human) damage.

I think one of the most disturbing things I gathered from this is it was 8pm on Sunday when my gun went off. I live in a duplex in a very tight neighborhood (close houses) not one person called the cops. I stood by the door anxiously ashamed for 30 min waiting to have to explain myself and they never came not even one patrol through the neighborhood.

Every once in a while I start thinking I'm a bit neurotic for checking the chamber three times.
Slide back, look inside - Slide back, look inside - Slide back, finger in chamber to verify.

Then a thread like this pops up and I'm suddenly OK with a little safety overkill.

Glad nothing but your pride was hurt.
I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!
