There are a few different types of mounts, yours needs a specific one, the PU mount, like this:
    http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=204947897
(I have nothing to do with this auction, just the first one I found)

Looking at the asking prices of the sniper rifles will give you an idea of what it is worth with a scope mounted and then you can decide what you want to put into it.

The bent bolt alone on yours is probably worth as much by itself as a complete typical Mosin is.

There are many reproductions out there, and I would expect to pay around $200-250 for a decent reproduction scope and mount setup.

If you are thinking you might buy one at the show, I strongly suggest you take the rifle along with you, they will check it at the door to make sure it is not loaded and then put a tag on it for you, then you can tote it around. I hate to say it, but there are some shady dealers as well as some uneducated ones that are more than happy to take your cash and then argue with you about the part they sold you not fitting, so please take your rifle to avoid this is my advice.

Again, congrats on the great find.
Great advice I will do that thanks.

Well I went to the show today and only found one scope and mount it was $ 350.00 and and looked in bad shape the lens was all milky So I passed. The guy also said my gun was interesting because it didn't have any import marks whatever that means. So looks like I will be looking online for a scope and mount.

Didn't anyone notice the PU side-mount on a "Hex" receiver?

No import marks means the rifle was in the country before the feds made it mandatory to stamp the importers mark on the rifle.
Some companies used to do it under the wood (Springfield Sporters, Penn Run, PA did for sure).
Anyway, a non-import marked gun is usually more desirable since it is more true to original looking because they don't have the current billboard sized import stamps they now use.

Actually, no I didn't, I glanced over that and probably thought it was camera flash.

    A rare bird indeed.

His "hex" receiver would have been used with the PE or PEM telescopic sight, which uses a completely different mount. See image, below:

So I wonder how It came to be. This thing hasn't been touched as far as I know.

Yet there it is, so either the net is not correct (which would be a real shocker), or the OP has a SOG hex sniper that somehow managed to reside in a garage for years.

Meh, who knows what to believe anymore.

I really dont care either way I am going to shoot the heck out of it. Can't wait to put a scope on it and test it at my clubs 300 yard range.
