Default Just Picked Up: Springfield Armory GI-45 Champion

I had a Kimber Pro CDP II, but after about 800 rounds through it, still felt it was a bit too finicky to trust with my life. That's not to say that was necessarily going to be my carry gun (I'm carrying a CZ RAMI now), but I don't keep guns that I can't trust without reservation. Yes, it would've made a good range/target gun, but it's just a philosophical thing with me I guess. Anyway, I picked this up today for $499 new, and have read mostly good things about them.

Looks like a good buy. I've been considering getting back into the 1911 platform myself, and something along those lines would make the decision a lot easier.

Thanks. "Simple" was what I was going for. As I've found with other guns, the "designer label" (and associated price) doesn't always make a difference when it comes to whether or not a gun's reliable.

That is exactly the kind of 1911 I want. You must tell us how it shoots. I am very interested in the 1911 and have been wanting one for a long time now. More info PLEASE! Thank you!

Will do. I expect to take it out between now and Saturday. My plan is to use the stock magazine, a Wilson Combat magazine, and a Chip McCormick magazine, with a few different kinds of target ammo. I'm looking to see how it is out of the box, and I'm hoping it's more forgiving than the Kimber. I'm not necessarily expecting I'll be as accurate with it as I was with the Kimber, but we'll see.

When I broke in my Kimber Custom II, I got one FTRB from the stock mag (you know, the so-called crappy mag), and had more problems with the 2 Wilson 47D's. But this was during the break-in period. Then I was able to get 100 rds flawless thru each Wilson mag. Made me happy.

Looking forward to your range report on this S.A.!
