I'm not going to add to the mix. 30 + years ago when I started an older reloader told me to look in the manuals for what they said was the best powder and charge. Try that first if you can find the powder. Then try something else. A pound of W231 will give you around 1300 charges for a 9MM, so you take a while to use it up. I reload 15 handgun types and can do it with three powders. Do I. NO. That's part of the fun of reloading, finding another powder and seeing what it will do. Every few months I make the three hour drive to Cabela's with a list of powder I want. Some to test, some I like.

All that said, 231 and Varget and you will not go wrong. But there are others out there and you'll never know about them until you try them in your guns.
