Springfield TRP or something esle
I am in the market for a decent 1911. I have only bought one 1911 before and it was a Wilson for my wife. I don't think I want to spend that kind of money on myself though. I am more into rifles than pistols. I am basically looking for a government model 1911 with some features. I mainly want night sights, ambi safety, and reliability. This will be my main carry gun so reliablilty is my main concern. I pretty much want something that is good to go out of the box without having to send it out to a gunsmith for modifications. I am looking hard at the Springfield TRP. I've read good things about them and I like the amount of features at it's price point. Is there anything else I should take a look at? My budget is about $1500 I can go up a little bit, but if I go much higher I would probably buy a CQB from Wilson. Right now I would rather not spend that much.

TRP, while great, may be too big for carry tho.
I;d suggest DW VBOB, or CBOB, if you can find decent used oneAudemus jura nostra defendere

I was gonna say the same thing. Take a look at Dan Wesson.

Re: Springfield TRP or something esle
TRP's are one of if not the best values in the 1911 world, I say go for it.
There are days my TRP operator is on my hip for 12+hrs and it never bothered me once. I would(and have) personally go full size over a smaller model since barrel length isnt really a factor when it comes to CC, plus the 5" models are more than likely gonna give u a better sight picture, and will be more reliable among other things.
There are also people that swear by PT1911's but that doesnt mean they are truly any good, it just means those that swear by them don't know any better.Last edited by XD45; December 4th, 2010 at 11:01 AM.

$1500+ can get you a lightly used Les Baer if you shop around. Used DWs are often considerably less. STI makes some nice ones well within your range and less.

Re: Springfield TRP or something esle
I just last week brought home a Dan Wesson Valor and, while I don't have experience with the TRP, I can tell you that I LOVE the Wesson. Only 300 rounds through it, but 100 were hollow points and its beens flawless. The black cerama-coat looks to be a winner, I have carried it everyday in a kydex IWB with no marks at all. Its every bit as accurate as my Dads Kimber Warrior. I imagine the VBOB would be just as great. The only thing missing is the ambi-safety but thats an easy fix. Good Luck!

Re: Springfield TRP or something esle
I bought my left over 07 CBOB new back in 08 for $824.
It was a choice between Colt XSE light weight commander and CBOB. I was this close to buying Colt, but changed my mind at the last min, and I never looked back.
Some people have no issues carrying full size 1911 with 5" barrel. While I have no issue carrying them, I find 5" barrel extremly combersome when Im driving.
And none bob tailed grip would jab my side as well...
TRP is great pistol tho. I would LOVE to have one. But if I do have one, I'd still carry CBOB insteadAudemus jura nostra defendere

I ended up finding a lightly used CQB for $1700. I thought that was a really good price and I could not pass it up.
