court for stolen gun - experiences?
Has anyone had to go to court for a stolen gun that was recovered, that you reported stolen years before it was recovered?
What was your role in the court as a witness? Did you have to testify? What questions were you asked? Im very scared to go to court.

Re: court for stolen gun - experiences?
It's going to go something like this.
"Is this your gun?"
"Yes"
"Do you know this guy?"
"No"
"Did you tell him he could have your gun?"
"No"
"Thank you for your time"

Re: court for stolen gun - experiences?
Can the guy try to lie and say he does know me or that I gave him the gun? Im scared this criminal is going to try anything to get his way out of charges.

Of course he can. If your property was simply stolen then you have nothing to fear. You'll be asked, but don't forget about restitution.

Re: court for stolen gun - experiences?
think my biggest fear is if this guy trys something like this then his attorney will drill me with questions when I am the victim. truth of the matter is I never gave anyone my gun so if he tried to lie would they even entertain that without any proof? Maybe I watch too much tv

Lets see if we can make sense of this...
Your gun was stolen, and some criminal used it on a crime.
Gun is traced back to you and you are due in court to testify.
You did report the gun stolen to the police as soon as you knew it had happened, right???
RIGHT?!?!?==============

Yes, as soon as I noticed it missing. This was back in 07, cops just recovered it during a search warrant.

Re: court for stolen gun - experiences?
Court is not that bad. I've had to go on a few occasions, for different things.
Can this person lie? Of course they can. They aren't on trial for being a nice guy.
1713 pretty much covered it. They will have a few questions. Just answer them.
As long as you don't know the person, you reported it stolen, and have honestly not done anything that is against the law. You should be fine.
Now, I'm not lawyer, so I won't claim to be.
This is all based on my experiences though.I'm so fast, I can bump fire a bolt action.

Re: court for stolen gun - experiences?
Thats it to the story. They wont tell me who they caught with it, so I dont know if I know him or not. If it is somone I know who took it does that change things? Could someone really lie and say that I sold it or gave it to them and get me in trouble? Wouldn't they need proof of some sort to even go that route?
