Tipton Best Gun Vise - does it WORK?
ESPECIALLY with AR's?
Gotta wrench a Delta ring off an AR, and for anyone who's ever done it - you NEED some leverage!
Is this thing gonna fly apart when I try it? Anyone here ever turned a wrench on an AR with one? Good, bad, or indifferent - I gots ta' know. I plan on buying one at Gander Mountain tomorrow... IF it'll do the job. Thanks!

i never did one on a gun vice before, you might crack the upper if you torque it to hard.

I definitely want to get one of those, but the Tipton CLAIMS to be "AR-ready" when it comes to that. Just didn't know if anyone had any REAL world experience - figured I could use the gun vise for OTHER things as well, but need it for this, NOW! Thanks!

Knowing the force needed, I wouldnt even chance it, by the time you bolted that thing down, you could just have used a block and a real vise to do the job.
Jeff Cooper was a huge supporter of gun games, when he was winning them at least...

Re: Tipton Best Gun Vise - does it WORK?
I have one and I use it for cleaning and small parts removal and install.
It's not for major gun work where a lot of torque is used.
I wouldn't call it a vise. More like a cleaning stand.

Re: Tipton Best Gun Vise - does it WORK?
The Tipton is very good when used correctly but it IS NOT a gun vise in the true sense of a vise. Go to Brownells or midwayUSA and get the upper receiver holder, it supports the upper when you have to put a lot of torque on it. You then chuck it in a regular vise and go to work. If you do a lot of work on AR's the best things you can get are the upper and lower receiver support blocks, they give the support you need so you don't damage the receivers.
The Tipton works very well as a cradle for cleaning and MINOR maintenance on rifles of all types. In my opinion it is well worth the price, it does make things easier.Ron USAF Ret E-8 FFL01/SOT3 NRA Benefactor Member
