1911 guys: Show me your...uh...lubing regment.

That title sounded much less gay in my head, FYI.

Aaaannyway, what do you guys prefer, and on what points, for a high quality, tight-fitted 1911?? I use CLP on my Glocks but not much, so it doesnt run out into my safe/holster/carpet. If the 1911 needs a litte more lube, go grease? Maybe a drop of oil on the rail and grease everywhere else? Specifically, I currently have Tetra Grease, Break-Free CLP (and the new "LP"), and Mil-Tec7. All have worked on my Glocks but, then again, I also used a paste made of gravel and tears and they ran just as well

So, who uses what, and where?

I use CLP on my TRP. Just a little on the rails and each moving part. I also coat the entire outside of the barrel with it. Probably not necessary but whatever, I've never had a problem.

I put grease and oil on the rails...
Grease on the barrel link...
and a little bit of oil everywhere else...

I carry my 1911 for duty use and rust=neglect so I oil everything real light once a week.

none of that is true... I used a touch of FP10 in the past, now Weapons Shield. some in the slide groove, a little on the safety, trigger internals, extractor, and a little on any part of the barrel that shows wear. same basic routine for all my stuff and I never get failures it seems.

I had a "Black Ops" moment like that today while shooting this threads subject, a 2010 Dan Wesson Valor Black, for the first time. It was cold as balls outside, I got my hands muddy driving the taget stand into the ground, and re-opened a nice cut on my thumb I had superglued shut last night. So, after running a few mags I go back to the bench to reload and there is my new Valor, slide locked back and barrel smoking, covered in mud and blood. Where are the girls from highschool when you need them!

For the Competition guns, I use Pedros Synlube http://www.pedros.com/synlube.htm

I lube the link, rails, and hood. My guns swim in this stuff.

For carry, I use the same stuff, just alot less.

I lube them generously in Weapon Shield.

No grease. Grease can trap dirt and can slow the slide a lot in cold weather.

Is there a "sweet spot" for you, where the gun is properly lubed but not dripping in your holster? Lets use a 'drop' as standard increment, as most dispensers are basically the same. Would you say then, that a drop on each rail, a drop on the link, a drop on the hood, and a drop on the hammer/sear area woud be sufficent if the weapon is hand cycled a bunch after lubing?
