Ruger Mark III question re ammo
I read about these volquartzen items (dont understand them as to what it is that they actually improve) and wonder if buying and installing them would fix a irritating problem or (not)....
Ok i use cheap ammo in my Stainless Hunter (walmart federal 525 box) and we are noticing a failure to fire in about every 3 magazines or less sometimes. Usually when put back in it goes bang so is it just crappy ammo or is there an improvement within the pistol to help set them off better?
My other gun is a S&W 357 model 60 revolver so this one feels like a dream to shoot for me already !
Any suggestions? I bought alot of this ammo so i am not very interested in the buying anything better yet. I suppose my main question is could the firing pin or something be causing so many failure to fires?
Thanks,
Marilyn

Re: Ruger Mark III question re ammo
I get failures like this too. I think it's just rimfire ammo is less reliable than centerfire ammo.

Re: Ruger Mark III question re ammo
I had the same issues with my MKII with fed ammo, switched to the rem golden bullets and it ran like a top.
Thing about 22's is no two are alike, find what it likes and use it.

Re: Ruger Mark III question re ammo
Probably just the ammo.
Ironically, unlike the poster above my Mark II HATES Remington (and this is with the Volquartsen extractor), but I shoot brick after brick of Federal with no issues whatsoever.
Just have to find what works best.

Re: Ruger Mark III question re ammo
I have the Volquartsen firing pin and extractor in my Mark III Hunter and it very rarely has any sort of FTF with Federal bulk. However, I refuse to buy Remington .22 bulk ever again due to how frequently they failed.
After removing the LCI on the gun, I've had no failures to feed or other jams in thousands upon thousands of rounds.
Now I just have to perform the same upgrades to my new (and unfired - for now) Mark III Target model.

Re: Ruger Mark III question re ammo
I have always had good luck with Winchester Dynapoints from Walley World. Reasonable cost, decent accuracy, and very few functional problems.
Don't know it it is fact or myth, but I read somewhere that rimfire ammo that was shipped during the winter (low temps) sometimes damaged the primer material causing it to crumble in spots, which could cause FTF. Poster would only stock up of .22 ammo during late summer.

Re: Ruger Mark III question re ammo
My MKIII goes bang no matter what ammo I feed it. I dislike the Remington Thunderbolts though. That's some dirty ammo.

Re: Ruger Mark III question re ammo
My Ruger MK III is the most reliable and accurate 22LR Pistol I own. It shots the crapiest soft lead bullets to the fastest Viper hp 22LR ammo, the guns is just awesome. Bull barrell target adjustable rear sights, factory and nice.
