I have had one now for over 4 years. It has over 15,000 rds thru it and finally had a break down. Maybe worded wrong. It still functions, but the slide lock on the right side broke off.

I liked it so much that I bought a 40 C and have been carrying it for almost 2 years now. it would take something pretty impressive to make me switch carry guns again.

M&P's are great guns. I don't think you can go wrong.

The ATF recently got a contract for $40 million worth of .40 cal M&Ps... Well a contract for up to $40,000,000.

What negative things have you heard about it? I love my compact and was considering selling it only because I found a Sig that I really wanted. I'd never get rid of it because of the gun itself, only to fund a 'want' purchase.

Check out www.MP-Pistol.com and click on "M&P Room" at the top of the page. It's a pretty good resource and you can get a good idea of what things people are having problems with and what they're doing to upgrade them. The Apex DCAEK is probably the number one thing that people do and supposedly it turns it into a completely different gun.. completely gets rid of the gritty/squishy trigger. I ordered the kit from MidwayUSA but I haven't gotten it yet. Randy Lee from Apex Tactical, David Bowie from Bowie Tactical, and a few other M&P specialists are pretty active on that forum so you always get a lot of feedback and specific help with issues. It's a fairly slow moving forum, but the posts are rarely off topic and always give a crapload of good info.. they really know their M&Ps.

I shot a few different comparable models in .40S&W before deciding on my M&P. The M&P is without a doubt the most comfortable and natural pointing gun I've held or shot. In my opinion all the Glocks and XDs, the closest competitors, feel like junk compared to the M&P. That's not to say their not fine guns and very reliable, etc... just that they really feel awkward and I guess 'cheap' compared to the M&P.

I think you'll be happy with an M&P of any size or caliber.

    Thanks for the insight.
Glock won the same contract, Sig FAILED miserably... That is a thread in itself, they attempted to sue the ATF over it...

I have 2 in 9mm, one full size the other a compact. They are my primary home defense and carry weapons. Several thousand rounds in total and never a failure of any kind. I did send the full size back to S&W to improve the ejection which was weak, occasionally throwing brass straight back. They replaced the extractor and returned it for free in 2 weeks. It helped but its still 'weak' expecially compared to my compact. I believe the 9 uses the same recoil spring set-up as the .40 so it probably contributes to the issue and its probably not a problem for the .40. Its also fine with higher power self defense loads.

I just added the APEX DCAEK to my full size and put another 5-600 rounds down the pipe with no failures. It dramatically improves the trigger pull and break, especially the break.. Can you use the M&P without it, absolutely but it really does help. I just got the kit for my Compact.

Plenty of holsters, mags, accessories available for it. I don't believe you can go wrong with it.
