ThE wait sucks I'm 20, but I'll be 21 in 6 days and yesterday I saw a great deal on an xdm 9mm so I just handed the money to my dad and he took care of it. The dealer understood. On my 21st I'll probably buy a p22 on my own

I have 2 daughters you could use, but the transfer fee is very very high.

IANAL but if you gave the money to your dad then technically it wasn't a gift, it was a straw purchase.

I'd like to know what a lawyer or judge would say about this without getting you in any hot water. I'd just like to know if that is truly legal.

In my (non-lawyer) opinion, this was indeed a straw purchase. If dad had paid for the gun, then resold, gifted, or traded it to the son, it would be a little more kosher on it's face, though reselling 5 minutes after purchase may still cast some doubt on the "are you the true purchaser" question.

Now if dad buys it with his money first, then sells it to his son later - then it'd be just a normal father-son transfer. However the initial intent when the father buys the gun would likely be a factor of a straw purchase.

Thats the way it was. He paid the dealer with his credit card. The total was able $600, I gave him $400 of my money afterwards and he covered the rest of the $200 as a present for my birthday.

I have a question, My fiance father bought me a SW1911 for my birthday. We transfered in to my grandmother's sister(I live with her). I realize now that she can't gift it to me. Can she still transfer it to me through the sheriff, if not my grandmother has agree to do a transfer with her sister then gift it to me. What am I better off doing, and do you or anybody you know how the Lackawanna sheriff handles those transfers? Thx (I'm 18yrs old by the way and am eligable to own a firearm)
