yea the Colt 1911 is what I was going for, it's the .45ACP caliber. I'm a frequent gun user, but I've never fired a Colt .45, so that's the exact model I was wondering about.
What the hell is a Colt1911 IMHO? (I love when people use abbreviations so commonly that I never pick up on them :-)

So if I were to have my brother buy me a pistol in PA and i paid him for it and had a "private-sale" transaction the pistol would be mine as soon as we sign some papers...right? As for the legality factor there shouldn't be any connection to him once I would privately purchase the firearm from him correct?

You must be 21 to purchase a handgun in PA. You cannot obtain a handgun through private sale if you are under the age of 21 due to the fact that a PICS check is required for the transfer to be finalized.

I just purchased a new pistol 2 weeks ago and had a PICS check performed before I was able to pick it up. Here is the info for the PICS:

When I bought a shotgun earlier this year I had the backround check, so wouldn't I pass the check for the private purchase of a handgun, I don't have any criminal record. What would be stopping me? From everything I read about PA law i got the belief that i could purchase through a private sale or be given a pistol from a parent as a gift because I am over age 18.

Wouldn`t that be an illegal straw purchase?

so then if that would be a straw purchase what would it be if someone bought a pistol, did not like it and sold it to a friend or family member who was over age 18? Wouldn't any sale from person to person be a straw purchase? I'm new to the handgun laws and am trying to figure out how I can purchase a handgun without my parents if I am under 21 but over 18.
