S&W Model 15 .38 DAO ro SA/DA conversion project
I wrote this for another forum but i thought you folks might like it
I picked up a Model 15 DAO police trade in from J&G a few months back and "converted" it "Back" to SA/DA
its a 1968 with a pinned barrel and a model 14 front sight.
"before"
40 years of gunk
all cleaned up
With everything needed to swap the hammers removed
Old hammer, if you look close you can see where the SA notch was ground off
old DA hammer next to "new" SA/DA hammer
ordered This hammer from Numrich it turned out to be a original hammer not an MIM replacement which was a nice surprise . (also do you see 2 penguins )
With the hammer dropped in. the easiest way to do this was to pull the trigger all the way back then it slides right in. then pull the trigger a time or two until it lines up right. you'll have to push the hammer forward after pulling the trigger since there are no springs .
putting the plate back on is a bit of a challenge to line up what i think its called the "hammer block" after first managing to put the plate on without the hammer block i got it done by holding the plate flat with the hammer block sitting in its grove. then i manipulated the handgun until it snapped in.
at some point i put the screws back in too but i didn't take a picture of that. It is important that they are in the same holes they came from also if you used the wrong size screw driver you will scratch up the screw heads (ask me how i know).
all done
and several months later in a fancy new Raven Concealment Phantom

Did you have to do any fitting to get the new hammer in? I would be surprised to hear that a replacement just dropped in.

I was suprised too. I think there are still police dept and/or security comapnys that still use 15/10 or the stainless versions (64 I think)
anyway I thought it was cool they offererd them so I added one To my order for my g26. It's some unholy combination of old school and taticool

Very nice revolver and looks like you did a good job on the install.
