I renewed(same process as a new license) last November or December and the lady had my new LTCF ready before I was done filling out the application. The application 5 years before was just as fast, the only hold up being PICS going to operator.

Every LTCF trip to the Northumberland County Sherriff's office I've had has been just as you describe. In and out in no time at all. The staff in that office have always been friendly as well.

Now taking your firearm to the courthouse and their check-in procedure on the other hand... Not so good. See the thread linked below.

Since this county is much faster and doesn't require "Local" references, can i go outside of my county to get a PA LTCF or does it have to be done in your residing county?

I have checked my weapon a time or two entering the courthouse in Sunbury and my experiences were always fine, the deputies may have been a little inexperienced with citizens checking guns but the end result was my weapon was checked and I conducted my business. And I also sent Sheriff Reiner an email stating my satisfactory experience there, and he actually emailed back to thank me for taking the time to inform him about my experience with his deputies.
And my 3 or 4 renewals were always a breeze.

You must apply in the county in which you reside.
