Default Open Carry Problems Golden Corral Monroeville

Ok was wearing my Glock 23 on my belt and the manager said "Do you have a badge or permit for that gun?" "Are you a police officer?".

When I said I had a permit to carry a firearm but was not a police officer he said "It is against corporate policy to allow firearms" So I covered my weapon with my shirt. He walked away and said nothing more.

As I was leaving I asked for his name. It was Steve Spensky. I also said "So this is a corporate policy by Golden Corral?" and he started to hedge. He said "You have to understand that these resturants are owned by individuals but yes it is corporate policy".

Does anyone know if Golden Corral has such a policy?

I plan on following up on this soon but my wife is having an operation tomorrow morning so it may be a while until I get around to it.

I would call them or send them an e-mail asking for the 'policy' in writing. Had a similar situation at Sheetz before. Ended up getting a letter of apology from the regional security manager or whatever. Sometimes the lower level managers like the throw the 'corporate policy' statement around just to get their way. Find out what the actual policy says and go from there.

It is more than likely what f16 said.

Walmart told me it was their corporate policy. Until I called corporate. Then the manager tried telling me OC wasn't legal. So I got a LEO on the phone with him to explain it was. He then told me that if it caused a panic, they would ask me to leave.

I don't go to walmart much any more.

Makes for an interesting question regarding ANY franchise business. For instance if Golden Corral's corporate policy is to allow firearms in their corporate stores, and the franchisee, owns lets say a couple in the southwestern PA are and the franchisee decides to make his own policy against, does the rights of the franchisee supersede the corporate policy?

    If it's a specific restaurant's policy then it isn't "corperate policy". There's a difference.

This is true. But in that case it's still the restaurant's policy. Since the restaurant is private property you may still have to abide by it.

Or, if you get a hold of corporate and they see that a paying customer is unhappy and they don't agree with the rule they may tell that specific restaraunt to change it.

That's fine, but they shouldn't be calling it a corporate policy if it's a "house rule". That's awful similar to the PPD calling their "Department Procedures" "Laws". There's a difference. :P
