First shotgun
Hey all,
I just picked up an old Remington 870 Wingmaster, 12gauge, 2 3/4, full choke. From what I can tell from the markings (zz stamped on barrel), it was made in 1953, ... I got it for a steal.
She's a little rough looking, bluing worn, rust spots here and there, bore is clean/shiny though. Action seems pretty smooth, especially after I cleaned her up, and lubed her... heh heh, he said lubed her... Have not shot it yet.
I'm gonna keep it the way it is, I kinda like the used/abused look of it as is, adds character in my opinion.
My questions are: Does it matter if I use steel, or lead shot in her? Was steel shot used back then? Steel shot is harder then lead, correct? Will steel shot have a detrimental effect on the barrel?
Thank in advance...

Re: First shotgun
That 870 will serve you well. I don't think they recommended steel shot with original full choke barrels, you may want to use one of the other non-toxic options for waterfowl.
