Finding black powder ammo

Hey, I just joined this forum, seems like a great place. I recently found my Great Great Grandmother's H&R Young American Double Action. Anyone know where to get some .32 black power rounds? I have a few left over from and old box my father had, and loved shooting it.

you can get holy black loads in the popular cowboy calibers....if you would dig deep enough, long enough you might find some others, but even if you do you'll pay through the nose for them.
reloading is the only way to get a, easy, cheap supply of them.....and reloading black is very easy.

I dont know that anyone sells those racist loads any more. I know for a fact that there are plenty of white power loads still available on the old mil surplus ammo market. Good luck

Lol, I feel like an idiot, thank you for the help, my grand father has a reloader, but I don't know anything about it, or them in general. Do you need a special reloader, and I would need older black powder, won't smokeless blow the gun up?

Buy a reloading manual (Lyman's is one of the best) and read it to learn the basics.

However, essentially reloading a pistol caliber case with black powder is pretty simple. Get a fine granulation of powder (FFFg), a lead bullet in the same weight range as that partial box of ammo you had, and fill case with powder to just under case neck. Black powder is loaded by volume, not weight. You won't get much into a .32 (is it a S&W, or S&W long or .32 Colt?) case, but enough to get some pow and smoke.

There's a little shop in Zelienople across the road from the plaza next to the burger king. I'm pretty sure the sign said black powder. Maybe one of the guys/gals from butler county could help you out as far as confirmation.

Its probably a .32 S&W (short).

If it is only a "first model", you can only use blackpowder. Second model's were smokeless.

As for blackpowder .32 S&W - that is really hard to find. You really are better off reloading .32 S&W blackpowder. Its really easy, just size and prime some brass, fill the case to just a smidgen below the mouth, then seat a bullet. In sometimes you may need to open the flash hole up a little for blackpower to get proper iginition, but once you do that you can never use that case for smokeless later otherwise you get blown out primers.
