    Default Mossberg 500 - Is this a good deal?

    I'm looking for my first shotgun for target practice and home defense.

    I came accross this on at Dick's. I'd appreciate any opinions.

    Seems like a pretty good price, though a 24" might be a little unwieldy for home defense. Maybe, maybe not... but I know 18.5" barrels are the usual HD choice nowadays.

    If it wasnt a ribbed barrel I would totally agree with you! Hell I think a bench with a chop saw would be perfect!

    Or get an 18.5 inch barrel in addition and you have two shotties in one neat little package. That's one of the things that makes shotties so nice.

    I was thinking of getting the 18.5 barrell later. I've seen them online for $89.

    Any other suggestions for improvements?
