New To Area- Rifle Ranges? Hunting Buddies?
Hey, I just moved to Pittsburgh a few months ago and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good range to go to for 50-100+ yd rifle shooting? I just got myself a new .30-06 and want to get her sited in. I've heard the public ranges aren't bad, but that some are better than others- which is the best one to go to around Pittsburgh?
Also, if there's anyone interested in going shooting or looking for a hunting buddy, I'd definitely be interested. It's been a few years since I've done any real hunting (thanks to grad school), but I definitely want to get back into it. I grew up hunting and know my way around, but could always use a good teacher. For deer, I have my shotgun and rifle here, so it wouldn't be a problem depending on the county.
Thanks!

The State game lands in Wexford are pretty nice. Of course some of the people that shoot there are of questionable character at times. And its an easy drive from "Mt Worshington".

Thanks for the suggestion! Are there sand bags to use as a rest at the state ranges or should I invest in my own bench rest?

no sand bags but they do have a roof all the way down the range so you can shoot on days like this.
and yes just like pirate man said some guys just don't belong shooting there.
racoon park in beaver county has some really good deer hunting if you get some park maps.
good luck!do you feel lucky punk, well do ya!

Try to go to the Wexford range during normal business hours, its not as crowded then. Obviously that is easier said than done, from my experience the closer it is to sundown/closing time the less crowded it will be.
Welcome to PGH. On an unrelated note, check out La Tavola, its an Italian restaurant on Mt. Washington that has amazing food. Sit in dinner takes a while but you can get take out.

I'm not fond of the Wexford gaming lands. WAY to many idiots there, especially on the weekends.
If you're looking for a quality club, Pitcarin Monroeville Sportsmans club is maybe a 20-30 minute drive from Mt. Wash. Sixty bucks a year gets you a 300 yrd rifle range (plans for a 600 yrd range are in the works), outdoor pistol and IPSC ranges, archery range, trap and skeet shooting and an indoor pistol range.
The PAFOA group shoots are a great way to check out the club.
