And then there are the people who pay the ever anonymous friend to teach them to shoot and buy the training issues too.

Agree about the training at least with law enforcement in many departments.

The Illinois State Police went to .40 S&W Glocks primarily because of the near gift of the guns and advertising promoting the .40S&W.

Any time L.E. agencies or the military are sold a new gun or new caliber the trend is for civilian shooters to follow in their shoes. Over the years this has been repeated many times.

As already stated in an earlier post there is nothing wrong with the .40 S&W, it is just not the only viable caliber for defense.

Both are good Defensive rounds and as far as I'm concerned, the price isn't too far off to make it a discerning point for me.

Personal Choice and comfortably always wins in my book.

I chose .40 only because a similar sized gun can hold more .40 than .45 and I feel that both are adequate in power... so capacity won me over.

However, both are good calibers... and I find the .45 to be more enjoyable to shoot because the recoil is full and crisp, whereas the .40 is sharp and snappy.

To me the 40 cal recoils just a little harder then a 9mm, maybe its just me or the big 96s, 24/7, G23 and 8040s I'm shooting it out of.

The 45acp rocks and drops I like that also its seems a little stouter then the 40 cal maybe thats just me. Both I shoot well and fast the 3 1911s are a little faster then my EAA79, PX4 and Glock 21sf, seems like.

I love .45ACP. I prefer to shoot it to most any caliber handgun. But I do have a .40S&W as well. As far as ballistic performance, I think if the shots are well placed, there is hardly a difference. But as far as more fun to shoot, I love .45ACP

It's a toss-up for me... .40 is cheaper to shoot, but I do feel a little more comfortable with .45 in my nightstand. That being said, I just bought a XD40 subcompact over a Glock 30 because it just felt 'right' in my hand.
