Default Need help choosing a scope for Mosin Nagant

Hey guys I bought a Mosin Nagant about a month ago and took it to the range last weekend and really loved shooting it. I'm going to be honest I'm not the best at shooting open sights on a long gun. My last 15 shots from 50 yards were in a 10in cirlce with 6-7 inside 4 inches. I'm not sure if that would be considered good or not. For Christmas I'm hoping Santa will bring me a nice scope to put on the gun. I understand what is all involved in mounting it but I wouldn't mind more advice on that as well. I have already ordered the ATI scope mount.

As for scopes I'm looking for something in the high power range that I can shoot 100 yard with 90% of the time with the option to go 200-300 yards. I only have one scoped rifle now a .22 Remington 597 with a factory 3-9x scope. I actually like the scope a lot. My friend has this scope http://www.opticsplanet.net/weaver-r...v24-24x42.html on his AR and I can't really seem to ever see out of it perfectly. I guess the eye relief just doesn't work for me.

Here is a few of the scopes I've been looking at. Trying to stay in the $250-under range. Not sure if an illuminated scope is any good or not either. If anyone has any advice or reccomendations I'd love to hear them.

Well you asked for advice so here's my 2 cents. Really think about what conditions you're going to use the scope with.

300 yards or less? NO need for an adjustable objective nor a top end power of 25X.

At the range under decent light and weather? NO need for illuminated crosshairs or a 30 mm tube.

By dropping the geegaws, bells, and whistles, and spending the same $, you will get better quality optics and mechanicals.

Buy a fixed 6X from Leupold, Burris, or Sightron. I've had a 6X Leupold on a 270 for 30 years and shot deer at 350 yards and groundhogs at 300 with it.

Or since you like the 3-9, get one with a 1 inch tube. I like the Bushnell Elite 4200 series. If you keep your eyes open, you should be able to find a 4200 3-9 for around $250.
