Attempted robbery just a few doors down from us, victim shot

Mobile Investigation Unit along with several cruisers sealed off our block right now.

Apparently there were 2 robbers attempting to rob a man and his 12-year-old son. They beat the son so the father fought back. During the struggle, the gun went off. One shot fired and hit the father in the shoulder. Both father and son are OK and being treated at Hahnemann.

One of the neighbors saw the 2 guys walking around the block several times suspiciously 1/2 hour before the shooting so he followed them around in his car a few times. We just came home ourselves an hour before the shooting.

Wife and I heard what sounded like a gunshot, but didn't think much of it since it was a single shot, until paramedic came. I came out to check and that's the story. I'm sure this will be in the news tomorrow.

No police sirens the whole time, just when the ambulance left and went south on Orianna, that's all. The same cruisers and mobile unit are just packing up and leaving as I'm typing this.

Looking at the "playback" I think it would have been wiser to call the police if he thought something looks suspicious, as opposed to following them around.

What was he going to do, question and detain them?

I agree with you 100%. I guess he thought if they knew he's watching them, they will go somewhere else. He said he even made eye contact with them.

The locational fix is not always the best. I live here because it suits me, for now. There is no way to entirely remove oneself from all problems through location.

This happened down the block from Al. Besides negatively impacting his property value this could have happened 1000 miles from him or anyone else. My point is, violence can happen anywhere at anytime and no place is safe.
