    Default First Homemade Holster

Just finished my first holster today. I already plan on making another with a few changes that I learned from the process. I will post pictures of the steps soon. For now here is the end result. Overall I am pretty happy with it.

Heres the pistol on the cut pieces of leather

    [IMG][/IMG]

Starting to put the cartridge loops. First I anchored the strip of leather at one side, then pulled it over a cartridge and pulled it tight then stitched it down. Just continued for the next five.

I then started the holes for the stitches. In hind site I should have made all the holes for stitches before I added the cartridge loops, on the outside piece it was a hassle to put the holes around the cartridge loops

I cant remember why, but I dyed the leather before stitching the two pieces together, next time I will wait. Except for middle where the gun goes, I used contact cement to hold the leather together before I stitched it together. Used some binder clips to help the glue bond.

Once the glue dried and I finished stitching I soaked the leather then wrapped the gun in saran wrap and left in in over night. The leather on the top went higher but when it molded, it was too tight to effectively pull the gun out and put back in, so I cut it down to where the cylinder started. I also had to add another piece of leather to the one belt loop to pull it out a little because it was rubbing to much against the site when it was on my belt.

Here is the finished product after I sprayed it with Tandy Super Shene. The next one I will put the front belt loop lower so that it does not press against the rear site of the pistol and so that it sits higher on my waist. All in all it was a good learning experience and it is a useable piece until I get around making another.

Good looking holster. Only now you have a job that will keep you out of the shooting ranges and gunshops
