Default GUN SHOP MISTAKE, IM FURIOUS!!!!

Hi guys, i hope you guys can help me out with this.

a few months back i bought a pistol from the army and navy store in whitehall Pa, recently i got into some legal issues and the and allentown police departmen took my firearm away for evidence, when they took pick up my pistol, they fill out a slip with the pistol information and they handed a copy to me. Today i went to pick up the pistol, i took the slip and the record of sale to prove my ownership.

i handed the record of sale to the LEO and he notice the serial on the record of sale do not match with the slip they gave me.

What can i do about this? Advice please

Did they return your gun to you?

Did you need the bill of sale for the gun, to get the gun returned to you? If so, I can imagine a LOT of people having a hard time putting their hands on theirs.

they didn't return it, i do have the bill of sale and i gave that to the officer, the problem is that they guy at army and nave store wrote down the wrong serial number at the time of purchase, but is only off by one number, he wrote a XD 77459 and the pistol is XD 77458

IMO, if the firearm doesn't come up as stolen, they should return it to you. What if it was a gun that was borrowed, or handed down through family, etc?

The burden should be on them to prove it's NOT legally owned by you, not the other way around. Did they ask for a receipt for the clothing items you were wearing when you went in?

It's not on record they took it from YOU? So why would you have to do anything but prove that you are YOU?

Why do they need the record of the sale?

Was part of the reason they took from you some question of it's ownership?

If not, I don't see how the bill of sale is relevant.

the problem is that the serial number on the record of sale is different from the firearm, is only off by one number example ku 9974 and ku9874

Simply go back have A&A check their records, because it may be wrong now also in the transfer book. They might have sequential numbered pistols and they grabbed the wrong one. Or the book will reflect the mistake and ask to have a new bill of sale. You don't need to tell him why other than your just want to have all the correct paperwork.
IF being nice doesn't work, go- ok "this" happened, do you want them to come find out why your gun sales paperwork is sloppy?

I would take the reciept the police gave you when they seized your gun back to them. Show them the reciept they provided. Then tell them to return the gun they seized that is listed on the form. When they refuse, get your lawyer involved!
