Default Deer Hunting with a 44mag. (Ammo and holster advice)

So I am going to be taking my Dan Wesson 44mag (8 in barrel). I am looking for both holster and ammo suggestions.

    The Holster:
I am looking for a bandolier type holster, and not looking to spend over $75. The problem is that the revolver is not scoped, and most of the holsters are for scoped guns.

    Ammo:
Any suggestions here would be nice. I dont reload so it would have to be factory.

    thanks

Ammo - I use handloads and Federal's American Eagle 240gr JHP - what old boxes of it I can find. The older AE 44mag JHP performs like a champ in my VA Dragoon. The new stuff has been powderpuffed to wuss levels, like most other 44mag ammo on the market.

Finding a bandolero rig for $75 or less is a challenge. Even Sportsmans Guide's rig is about $100.

I haven't used the .44 for a few years so I'm not really up on the current ammo selection.
I used to use 240 gr half jacketed lead flat point handloads.

As for a holster, I used a Bianchi shoulder rig.

This might be what you are looking for, price is well within your range:

I just bought this cheapo holster at the following link for my 7.5" Blackhawk 44 without a scope...

    http://www.cabelas.com/product/Scope...dolier+holster

It's not fancy but it serves my purposes well. The fit is great, and you can't beat the price. I bought the 8.5" model and it fits my pistol comfortably. They also have a camo version available for the same price, but it wasn't in stock when I made my purchase.

As for ammo, I plan on using WWB 240 grain JSP. I have some high quality HPs, but I just think they will ruin meat more than anything else.

    Good luck!

I've taken a number of nice deer over the years with the 44mag. using handloads.
300gr. Hard Cast FN bullets and H 110.

I think more then anything knowing your handgun and what you can and cannot do with it will give you a positive end result.

    Holster?

I still use a self modded holster that I vamped up back in the early 80's when I started to hunt with the 44mag. My Black Hawk has an older type PDP3 on it and the holster needed to be 'notched' out for the optics. The holster rides on my duty belt basically at my crotch area as I've found this to be both comfortable with quick access.

We sell a Bandito holster from Shamrock Holsters. The entire rig includes the Bandito Belt, the holster and ammo loops and costs $120. The holster will be made to fit the specific revolver, whether scoped or not. The stitching, leather, snaps and grommets are all guaranteed for life. They come in both black and brown. The holster has snaps so it can be removed from the belt and worn on your hip.

    Check em out here.

+1 on the Federal 240 gr. JHPs. I use a nylon bandoleer-style holster with a belt strap that keeps it from flopping around.

I have a S&W 629 83/8 barrel and used Hornadys 44 Leverevolution 225 gr bullet for the first time. I put 3 in the bull under a quarter at 100 yds. The other 3 were 2 to 21/2 low right. Pistol is getting old like me and needs to be sent back to S&W to get timing straighted out. I`ll be using this load come opening day.

I use Hornady 240 grain XTP's. They are very accurate out of my S&W Model 629.
