    Default Scope question

I have a Redfield 4-12x40 scope on my Ruger 10/22.

Does anyone else have to pretty much have the scope mounted as far back as possible to get a good view?

The back ring is at the very edge of the rear of the base and the scope itself is slid back as far as it can go with a ring on each side of the adjustment knobs.

I don't think I've ever seen a gun with a scope mounted this way and I think it looks stupid, but if I don't mount it this way, I can't see through the scope.

How it looks isn't important, only how it shoots....

Mine is pretty far back on my bolt .22

That is an indication your scope lacks adequate eye relief. Eye relief is an attribute not many shooters take into account when selecting a scope.

You may need to try differrent base, I have same Redfield as yours mounted on my Winchester SS Featherweight Model 70, I use two piece reversible base(Burris) that allow me to move the scope further away so I can get a good view, Cabelas also carry them.

How far is it from your eye though? Since there is no real recoil to deal with, getting scoped when shooting shouldn't be a problem.
