Default How to SBS a Saiga

I've been kicking around the idea of sending away for a tax stamp and buying a Saiga 12. I've found tutorials for converting them to the pistol grip/stock set-up but I can't find any on cutting the barrel and moving the gas system back. Most of the places that specialize in Saigas charge 400-500 just for that job, and I figure why spend the money if I have access to all the tools.
Has anybody seen a tutorial on the web?

How short are you wanting to whack the barrel?

You may not have to move the gas block, maybe only have to open the port some if it doesn't cycle completely once you cut the barrel back.

I was thinking short.. probably 8-10" barrel. Most likely 10". I know Tromix doesn't do 10" barrels anymore, but Tony moves the gas block back 4" for 8" barrels.

They look so nice with the short barrel and side fold stock!

Exactly. I'd be going for the look of the bottom one...

Actually for another $100 on top of the S-17 price Tony will in fact do a 10" gun, and $250 for 12" and 14" barrels.

Oh I must've been told wrong, either way Tromix does great work. I'd just like to SBS a Saiga myself to 1. Save money and 2. Just for the experience.

I still can't find any information about moving the gas system back though.

Tony stopped doing the "unusual" custom work due to the backlog it was creating, but either way if you want to do it yourself it can be done. From my understanding is that the real trick is getting the gun to run both birdshot and buck with the shorter gas system. I may have some information squirreled away if I can find it.

The way I understood it, that was the benefit of moving the system and not messing with the ports. If you have any information, I'd appreciate it

Check the Saiga-12 forums. Any and all info you will need for the job will most likely be found there.
