Default Pistol Competitions - Montgomery County

    hello all,

well it took 50 days for the local pd to fill out the check form. It took the sheriff's department 15 minutes but i've got my permit and i've purchased a Ruger Mark 3 22/45 target model.

so... Are there any location in Montgomery county that host competitive shooting events? I'm looking for either a team that needs a member or 2 (my wife shoots also) or individual competitions.

    Thanks for any replies.

I'm not sure about any competitions in the area for a .22 but some places have a steel shooting contest just can't remember where.

I just heard today about these police check cards. What are they all about. My good friend lives in Monto and wants to get his LTCF and was telling me all the steps he has to go through

I'm not sure what other counties have it, but this is what Montco's looks like:

    http://www2.montcopa.org/sheriff/cwp...45054cd58d.pdf

Basically, the Sheriff makes YOU do the investigation for him. You're required to take the check card to your local police department and get them to sign off on it - before you can even submit your LTCF application.

It gets even worse when some police departments charge a fee for this - or take an extremely long period of time. The OP said it took 50 days to get the card back from his local PD. The Sheriff is supposed to issue or deny the license within 45 days.

It's one of the many examples of NON-uniformity in the application of the Uniform Firearms Act.

    IANAL

Edit: Thanks to HiredGoon for finding that online

Wow never thought I'd say that but there are advantages in living in Philly. LTCF is issued by Philly PD so they do all the work and it takes less than 10 weeks .
