Re: Gloves or mittens for hunting?
Last year I finally found a combo that kept my fingers at least a little warm. I wear a thin pair of thinsulate high tech gloves under a pair of big fleece mittens. The mittens are the kind that you can fold back the finger part and have your fingers free to manipulate the gun. They also have a pocket on your knuckles for one of those chemical heaters.
After sitting still up in a tree stand in the wind all day I get really cold.

Light gloves under a pair of mittens have been my answer. That way when you put you fingers on the ice cold trigger/stock it isn’t uncomfortable while that buck takes the rest of his life to clear that one pin oak in the way of your shot.

i wear milsurp trigger mitts. they're a full mitten with an "extra" finger, which means that you can keep your fingers toasty in one pocket like a mitten, and only put your index finger in the trigger finger when you need it. they are also a liner/shell system, so i can just swap out the liners when they get wet i shoot, ski, drive, etc in them.

I like thin poly liner gloves under wool milsurp gloves with a chemical handwarmer between the 2 if real cold.

Re: Gloves or mittens for hunting?
My Dad shot a deer (the only one he ever got) in or around 1950 with his then-new 336SC. He had two pairs of mittens made from the hide. The right mitten (trigger hand) has a slit at the base of the fingers. The fingers can be quickly slipped into bare handed use of the rifle. I still have them and still use them. Riding a motorcycle in as low as 2 degrees, I learned the value of having the fingers kept in one pouch.
There are two kinds of guns. Those I have acquired, and those I hope to.

They're like convertible gloves.

Something like these, toss a hand warmer in the mitt part for the morning and hands seem to do well.Una Salus Victis Nullam Sperare Salutem

If I’m moving I wear finger gloves. If I’m stand sitting mittens with hand warmers. For my feet while stand sitting, BOOT BLANKETS with hand warmers, feet never get cold.
