Re: Home rule------L.T.C.F.????
The passage of the home rule charter will change the form of county goverment in Luzerne County and has no effect on other countys. Most elected row officer will be gone. Our license to carry firearms is throught the sheriff. If there is no sheriff, how do you apply for a L.T.C.F.? Also who or what will do the other jobs that the sheriff does?? Lots and lots of questions, not only about the sheriff, will need to be anwsered.........

Home rule counties and municipalities are still subject to the state and federal Constitution and the firearms codes.
Delaware County is home rule and has a sheriff. I can't see them ridding the county of that department.

We'll still have a sheriff, but he'll be appointed now, not elected.

Re: Home rule------L.T.C.F.????
Appointed Sheriff's is a VERY BAD IDEA, as then they are not accountable to anyone except to whoever appoints them.
So instead of serving the Citizens as they are supposed to, they are now servants of the system.
There was this famous appointed sheriff from Nottingham to look to as example of why this is a bad concept but that was England and another time, from the story of robin hood that maybe just a story or based on some kernel of facts in history. Either way it’s still a bad idea ripe for abuse at some point from unaccountable bureaucracy.
Guess we need to pass a law that says the sheriff are elected poition in PA as the "interpretation" of so called home rule (by lawyers) allows the by pass of the original and historical intent of the founder of PA that the county sheriff should be elected office, to make sure it stays accountable to the people who they actually serve.
