Shotgun headspacing
How crucial is shotgun headspacing? Its for an 870 Wingmaster in 2 3/4.
I ask because I was running some snap caps and sometimes the bolt will not lock forward when loaded with the snapcaps. (Tipton snap caps - plastic)
I think its just the poor tolerances in the plastic snapcaps, but the shotgun is also 35 years old. As far as I know the bolt is the original. It currently has a 870 express barrel manufactured in '92.
Shotgun has not been shot yet since I purchased it over the summer. Been doing a little work to it.

Re: Shotgun headspacing
Do not fire that gun before you have the chamber checked. There are drop in gauges that a gunsmith would have. It is very simple and only takes a minute. Find a gunsmith and have him check your gun. He can save you a lot of trouble. If the gun is okay he will tell you so, and you can shoot it with peace of mind.
It may just be the snap caps. Have you used the Pachmeyer aluminum ones. They are exactly the right spec.Last edited by Rodolfo Fierro; November 2nd, 2010 at 07:24 AM.
