Default XD(m) fit an XD holster

I have a Blackhawk holster for my XD 40.

I am about to get an XD(m) 45 and was wondering if it will fit.

The Blackhawk site shows an XD and XD Comp.

There is no listing for an XD(m).

Doubt it. The XD 45 has a larger frame than the 9mm/40sw frame, and to top that off, the XDm 45 has altogether different dimensions.

You may however be able to fit the XDm 45 into a XD45 serpa. I wouldn't bet on it, but it's possible. I know with the 9mm/40sw XDm's people could use them in the 9mm/40sw XD serpas, and by adding a strip of velcro to the interior of the holster it would remove the wiggle room.

IMO you should get a holster that was designed for your gun. Blackhawk serpa's are whatever holsters, they are not nearly top of the line, or anything special. Try something new this time around. I don't see a blackhawk XDm 45 holster coming out in the foreseeable future, the gun is too new.

Hey thanks for the quick reply.

I do want the right holster for the pistol.

The lack of a listing for the XDM made me wander but you gave a reasonable explanation for that.

Who else makes a "lock-in" holster like the Serpa?

I made a bracket to mount the Blackhawk on my mountain bike and want to have the same setup for the new pistol.

    Agree w/ this 100%.

You don't necessarily have to go overboard on the $$ (i.e. full custom w/ a 9 month wait time), but IMO you owe it to yourself to at least get a holster that was made and molded precisely for your exact model pistol. Whether it's kydex, leather, whatever...

Anything else and you're most likely short-changing yourself as well as potentially compromising the effectiveness of the holster.

    Regards,

    Bones

I've used my XD45 in a broken-in standard XD holster. I don't think it fit very well in a brand new one, but mine had the thumb-safe which made the snap have to travel a bit further. My brother also used his XDm 9mm in the holster with no problems. I think you can work the blackhawk leather pancake to fit anything close by getting it hot and damp (insert pun here), wrapping your pistol water tight in a zip-lock or something, forcing it in, apply pressure on the outside uniformly over the holster, and leaving it set for a bit -- well, just see instruction here: http://www.gunfighter.com/cgi-bin/bb....cgi?read=9932

You might check and see if Safariland is making a .45 yet. They have 9 and .40 out for sure, not sure about the .45.
