Question NRA qualification question about targets

I have done a bunch of research but i still can't figure out if I need to shot both D-1 and D2 targets and positions, or if i can choose just one of them to qualify for Marksman 1st Class and Sharpshooter.

    Any help is much appreciated.

I assume you are talking about the pistol qualifications? I took a look at the rules and it doesn't seem 100% clear to me either. I think you can qualify with either target but the distance you are from it depends on which target you use. At least that is how I read it.

I suggest sending and email to marksmanship@nrahq.org for clarification. I have sent them questions before since this isn't the first time I have come across some ambiguity in the rules. They have always been very good about responding.

I am still waiting to hear back from NRA, but my first email reply said that i had to shoot both 15 ft targets and 30 ft targets. So i guess i have to shoot 20 targets with the correct scores.

Here what the NRA sent me.

    Chris,
Sorry for the confusion on this hopefully I can clear it up for you. For Marksman Ship First class you only need to use 1 type of target and the corresponding distance. The reason 2 targets are listed is so that if your range doesn't offer a 15 foot pistol range you can use the AP-1 target at 30 feet instead, or vice versa. The two stages involved strong side and weak side are fired at the same target at the same distance to qualify.

    For example:
If you want to shoot 30 feet away (my preference)
You would use only the AP-1 target
You would then fire 5 shots strong side into the target in 3 minutes
Then you would then fire 5 shots weak side into the target in 3 minutes
For a total of ten shots that you would then score.
Repeat this on 10 total target (equaling a total of 100 rounds fired collectively. 10 each on 10 targets)
    And your done.

Hope I was able to clear this up for you. If you have any questions please feel free to email me back or call.
