Default Best deal on a cheap, reliable HD 12ga?

My first thought was the Maverick 88. Made my Mossberg, known to be reliable and sturdy, pistol grip, no frills, all business. That's what I'm looking for.

Other suggestions? Best deal you've seen on them? I know a lot of vendors sell 'em. I think Bud's has them for about $209 shipped. I feel like I had seen them for about $175 somewhere before, though.

    Thanks!

    Hawk 982 12GA < $200 - takes all Remmy 870 parts and is built like a tank.

I have to agree with Sparky - I don’t like the word Cheap, reliable & Home Defense in the same line - Spells trouble to me.

We could argue all day about the best HD pump shotgun on the market but I don’t think anyone can argue that a Remington 870 is by far one of the best performing firearms at the best bang for the buck you can get. There's also as you may know more accessories out there for the 870 than you'd know what to do with.

    Buds has received a pile of police trade ins - 299 would get you a 20" 7+1 or 329 a 18" 6+1.

Take it or leave it, but really, what's an extra 100 bucks when you're dealing with HD?

dunhams sells a Mossberg 500 persuader (full stock, 18" barrel) with factory heat guard for $269. they have this sale at least every six weeks if not more often. if you're going new, this is the minimimum price for the minimum gun you should get (also happens to be a great gun).

i have a maverick 88 in 12 gauge that is unfired, something i took in trade. it's yours for $180 cash, private sale, provided you smell right. LTCF guarantees a sale. i am 3 miles from red lion. PM me.

they are good guns, and are worth using for any purpose your heart desires. have some good 12 gauge ammo below store prices, also.

I realize I shouldn't have used the word 'cheap'. I guess the better term would be 'budget' or 'economical'.

Man, I love this forum! PM sent, justashooter!

I LOVE it when the world finds balance -- that particualar Maverick was meant for the poster.

And I'D LIKE TO KNOW how does Police Trade in and reliable equate? Even a civillian used gun has to be questioned over a new one. Cops are the worst shooters and handlers of firearms there are.

I will be adding a sling and changing the forend out for a hogue forend. Remington 870 Wingmaster's are excellent shotguns and for $249 OTD, I consider this one of my best buys.
    Cool. Congratulations.

Nice. I believe that is the sort of thing I'll be looking for. What barrel length?
