Scope idea for a Smith and Wesson M&P15-22...
First off, call me an idiot if you will.
Second, I've never owned an AR or AR style .22 or even a rifle for that matter so this scope stuff is all new to me.
I just recently bought a Smith and Wesson M&P15-22 from a member here on the forum. Now, I wanna get a scope on it. I was in my local Wal*Mart and saw this scope: Tasco Red Dot 1x42mm Riflescope. I know it's cheap, but, that's what I'm looking for right now. It says it's for a Weaver Mount. Will it still mount on my M&P15-22? It looks like it will but I don't wanna buy it and have it not work.
I'll even accept offers of other good riflescopes out there for cheap.
Thanks in advance.

Not a bad option for just plinking. I used a TruGlo red dot very similar to that on my M&P 15 22 and it worked great, punching holes at 50 yards right where I wanted them. I figure it's just a toy gun, don't need to spend tons of cash on an optic.
If you want magnification, try this

It's a cheap WalMart scope, but like I said, you don't really want to put a $200 scope on a $400 gun, do you? It's just a plinker. The scope works great, even out to 100 yards. The illuminated reticles are silly, I don't even bother with them, but you could be into it. I've got one for my 15 22, works great BUT the rings that come with the scope will NOT fit the rails on your gun.
ETA; It's a great gun, you'll enjoy it. Get some more mags and some ammo.Selling off a a sizeable Spyderco collection here

its a great little scope. it looks tactical, and you can get it in different magnifications. easy on easy off quick detach lever and illuminated. its pretty easy on the wallet too.
shop around on the rrages website. he caters to people who love the tacticool 22's.Guns don't kill people, it's mostly the bullets.

This is what I currently have on my 15-22:

Haven't had a chance to use it yet. Maybe next weekend.
Question though - do you take the front post off when you attach a red dot? I left mine on, and have the scope on top of a riser so the dot shows right above the front sight. Is this standard practice, or should I remove the front sight?

How about this one? If you are into the Aimpoint clones.

I think I may go with this one or one similar for my M&P 15-22. And for only $29....cheaper than the walmart one also.If zombies start chasing us, I'm going to trip you!

Thanks everyone for your input.
Well, I decided it was easiest to just go to Wal*Mart and pick up the cheap 'ol Tasco scope. I just finished mounting it. Looks pretty sweet. Hopefully, I'll get out this week to test it out.
Here's a pic.Last edited by iMoses14; May 26th, 2014 at 11:57 AM.
