    Yes, it will transfer (in state) to you for $5 on a Form 4, plus the price of the gun.

    is it just $5 if you put a stock on back of a pistol like an ak 47 drago? or is that totally different territory?

    Then it becomes a SBR-short barrel rifle...$200 tax.

    You could always make your life easier and just make it an SBR AR-15 and then you can put the vert. grip on it and it doesnt matter because its not a pistol. Thats what I am doing checked with the Class 3 dealer and everything. I will never call that A.T.F. on anything ever again after I was on the phone for 6 hours to find out about my SBR only to find out misleading and false information!!!

    as a reminder....

    the tax for a non SOT to make any NFA weapon (other than MG, or Explosive DD in PA) is $200.

    only an AOW has a TRANSFER tax of $5.

    so the cost to make an AOW or SBR is $200, the transfer is AOW $5, or SBR $200.
