County implementing new gun permit system

County implementing new gun permit system

The Luzerne County sheriff's gun permit office in Wilkes-Barre will be closed all next week as the department implements a new permit-issuing system, Luzerne County Sheriff John Gilligan announced Wednesday.

The gun permit office will reopen Oct. 25.

As a result of the new system, gun permits will no longer be available at the department's Hazleton office, Gilligan said.

Yeah... it's the more uniform system using new equipment where the person's DL is scanned and a DL-type "gun permit" (

) is issued from that info.

All sheriffs (& Philly chief) are supposed to be using this new system by early 2011.

There's a big thread about it here somewhere...actually a couple threads I believe.

Luzerne is a little too spread out to only have one center; since all of these systems tie into a central database, there is no logical reason (except for the few thousand dollars that the machines cost) for the licenses not to be available in Hazelton.
