1911 Government Model
I recently received a 1911 45 as a gift from my father. The serial number is
c 93212. The words "Government Model" are stamped directly above the number. The pony is stamped at the rear of the slide. The serial numbers would suggest that it was made in 1914, but what throws me is the "C" preceeding the number and the "Govenment Model" stamp on a gun of that vintage. Can anyone give me some info on this gun?Last edited by Rocky B; October 8th, 2010 at 09:31 PM.

Re: 1911 Government Model
I imagine it's a commercial model 1911 and the lists I have show it to be made in 1917 (one of 24,000 made that year).

Can you post pics? Sounds like a nice piece.

Re: 1911 Government Model
Here's a link to pics of another 1917-vintage commercial 1911 "Government Model". Colt made commercial guns concurrent with their military contracts except during most of WWII. Don't let the "government" marking mislead you.

Re: 1911 Government Model
The web page that you refered me to with the pics was a great help. With the exception of the serial number, that is the gun I have. I'll take some pics, and post them tomorrow. Thanks allot for your help.
