    Default Thinking 45ACP

I feel the need to add a 45 to my collection. I think my list of wants/don't wants will limit my choices. With that said, I'm looking for a 45 that meets the following requirements:

    - The frame MUST be metal
    - MUST have an external hammer
    - SA/DA

I have an EAA Witness in 9mm, and I am thinking that maybe a Witness in 45 may be the way to go for me.

    Any other suggestions?

I'd look at Rock Island Armory - can't beat the bang for the buck and they are solid 1911's ! I own a 4" commander in 45 acp and a 5" in 38 Super. Great reviews, and I have had zero issues. The 4" commander in 45 acp goes for $ 399-$410 and although I picked up my 38 super for $ 310, they go for about $ 499. Now if money is no object, I've always eyed the Kimbers !
    Good luck !

oops, guess they don't cover the sa/da need. i'm not the most knowledgeable on 1911's but I think that need will make selection limited ? maybe the para's with the regular type trigger ( lda trigger or something like that )

A Sig P220 meets your requirements perfectly.

So what you're describing is............a revolver.

My first thought was also an EAA/CZ75, since I own one of those in .45, I'm not a huge fan of the trigger shape, though (something about the curve being too extreme for my fingers). Other options: Beretta Cougar, a Sig in the P2xx series, Colt Double Eagle (I've played with one...it's weird), there are others, but your criteria limits you due to the fact that you don't want polymers and you don't want SAO...

The Colt Double Eagle and the S&W 645, 4505, 4506, 4516, 4566 etc. fit those requirements. I'd like to check out a 4506 myself.

Guns don't kill people, it's mostly the bullets.

The S&W Model 625 meets all of your requirements.

    Metal - pure stainless
    external hammer - yep
sa/da - cock it back if you want

Could not agree more with the Smith & Wesson selections. Have the 625, the 645 and the 745 (though this is SA only) but the 4506 will also fit the bill. A fair number of ex-Police 45XX series are available and they are bulletproof. I also second the SIG 220, though I only have its cousins the 225 and 226 in 9 mm. If you want one that is indestructible then the Ruger 90 (I have the DC version) is worth a look. Dave_n

    do not be fooled.
    is it stainless?
yeap it's martensitic ss, but you probably thought it was austenitic ss.
point being, it can still rust. you will find that it is quite magnetic.
it's only metal, we can out think it....
