Default Suggestions for 1911 Red Dot?

My eyes are getting to the point where I am starting to think about a red dot for my 1911. Looking to spend no more than $350, cheaper would be better. Target shooting only at about 25 yards. Any recomendations for a red dot and mount would be appreciated.

    C-More.

    Something like this:

You can get dot modules to change the dot size.

A classic among Bullseye shooters is the UltraDot Match Dot.
In the reflex style - which I have on my own .45 - there is the JPoint sight, the Docter sight, the Burris Fastfire.

Thank you. The two suggestions seem to be different in that the one red dot is more like a HUD and the other a tube varient. What are the advantages of one over the other, or is it just personal choice?

Pretty much personal choice and weight. The first real question you want to answer is slide mounted or frame mouted?

    slide mounted or frame mouted?
Very true. Mine is slide mounted. The original installation was an UltraDot. it lasted a bunch of years; eventually, though, it succumbed to g-forces. i replaced it with a JPoint sight. there was little to no difference in ease of dot acquisition. it weighs only one-half ounce, significantly lighter than the tube sight.
The weight of the sight and where it is mounted affects the type of load that the gun will shoot efficiently. This is less of a consideration if you shoot only factory loads.

    UltraDot 30mm.

Your choice as to single dot size or multiple dot size.

    See: http://larrysguns.com/Departments/Ul...cs.aspx?page=1

BTW, since you're older now (don't complain about it, just consider the alternative!) you might have gotten to the stage where you're using reading glasses (not the drug store magnifiers, I mean real prescription reading glasses) try using your red dot with your readers. That's because the distance from your eye to the center of the scope is closer to your reading focal length than your "distance" glasses. If you are like me and need glasses to correct for astigmatic eyes also, you must wear your prescription lenses to see a round dot. Fail to do so and you'll see a red woolly caterpillar.
