Mosin Nagant- Bi-pod?
First off, I have to say- having a Mosin Nagant makes the movie 'Enemy at the Gates' about 100x better. To actually see the rifle in combat killing Nazis is... well, awesome.
Back on track now. I want to purchase a cheap bi-pod for my Mosin; to make it a little more stable aiming at longer range targets. I am going shooting this weekend and I'd like to be able to hit smaller sized targets (roughly 8inx8in) at 150m+. I have two questions:
1) Does anyone have any experience with a bi-pod on a Mosin?
2) Is it legal to put a bi-pod on a Mosin?
I have been educating myself on the laws, but I still have loads to learn. I certainly don't want to break the 922(r) law of having a modified rifle with more than ten foreign made parts. That being said, not having a bi-pod isn't going to make a large negative impact on the shooting. I always have the option of using the terrain to my advantage, although I think it would be pretty neat to have a bi-pod. Any and all information regarding this would be greatly appreciated, thanks!"We must all hang together, or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately." -Benjamin Franklin

Re: Mosin Nagant- Bi-pod?
1. no experience with bipod+mosins
2. it is perfectly legal.. **{trying to figure why a bipod would be illegal??}**
922 pertains to semi-auto "nonsporting" firearms. if it pertained to bolt, pump, semi-auto(sporting type), etc - then 80% of the rifles brought into this country today would be illegal.Last edited by knight0334; November 6th, 2007 at 10:08 AM.

Re: Mosin Nagant- Bi-pod?
Are you looking for a bipod to use from the prone position? If so, all you need is one of these:
http://www.gunaccessories.com/Bipods/index.asp
It's the first one - universal, no mounting needed, not positive it will work on you rifle. If not, just go to Gander mountain and buy a Harris stud mount Bipod, all you need to do is drill a hole in your stock and install the stud for the bipod.
BTW, if you learn how to use a sling you could hit 8" targets at 150m from prone or sitting and forget about the bipod.

Re: Mosin Nagant- Bi-pod?
interesting idea to use bipod.
Eventho I think Mosin was originally intended to use dead comrad as substitute bipod..
