Have and use daily an ankle holster all be it for a different pistol. Is a Galco ankle glove, works great.

I've carried mine every work day in a DeSantis Apache Ankle rig for the past three years.
Awesome holster at a very reasonable price.

I almost always pocket carry my 637 (same model but with a hammer). I'll have to look into some of these. I could use the option. It's not the best place to carry, but when you don't have any other options a gun on your ankle is much better than no gun at all.

I also use the Galco Ankle Glove for my 442. I highly recommend it.

I have used a DeSantis Apache Ankle rig for the past six years. Since retirement three years ago, I generally only wear it in coolder weather because my wife insists it looks silly when I wear shorts and sandals.

    Great holster for the price.

Although I have never tried ankle carry, it seems like it would be really awkward...but apparently you get used to it I guess?

Even as light as the S&W 642 would be, it still has some noticeable weight to it when loaded.

Does anyone wear a weighted strap on the opposite leg to balance things out?

The only thing that feels kind of awkward at first in the bulge of the cylinder against your leg. The Apache Ankle rig has lambs wool on the back side of the holster so it offers a kind of pad between the gun and your leg.
The weight of the gun has no effect on how I walk or makes me feel unbalanced.

Having said all this, I switched to carrying a Kahr PM9 on my ankle instead of my 642 about two weeks ago. The Kahr is even more comfortable due to it being flat and it even fits in the same holster as my 642 did.

Ankle carry doesn't afford you the quickest draw, but it is better than carrying nothing at all when you can't carry any other way. You just have to practice drawing and then practice some more. You also have to mentally prepare what your course of action would be should you need to draw your gun. It's much a much slower draw and getting to cover first is probably the best option. It really does take some different thought and mental preparedness when ankle carrying is your only option.

One thing I do when leaving work at night or after dark is to put my gun into my pocket in case I would have a bad situation while walking through a dimly lit parking lot to my car.

How secure is an ankle holster? Do they use velcro, heavy duty buttons or straps? Has anybody had one just fall off or roll around?
