Right now ordinary citizens cannot get a Permit to Carry a Handgun in NJ.

Maybe I would consider a NJ license even for $500. I too have alot of family in NJ and don't like going to Jersey if I can help it.

This issue might be more appealing to the money grubbers if they realized that many out of state people are also interested in getting licensed and are willing to "contribute." Distasteful, yes, but we do appreciate your help

No disrespect to anyone else who has posted but personally I wouldn't pay their ridiculous $500 yearly ransom. People need to vote with their pocketbooks. That coming from a person New Jersey born and bred and long time resident (no longer, I voted with my feet 7 years ago - got tired of them claiming a large portion of my bank account!)

I avoid New Jersey as much as I can (as well as every other ANTI-SELF PROTECTION state) but when I must go there I take advantage of the only thing it's good for these days...CHEAP GAS!!!

From what I recall from the bill, I would gladly pay the $500 yearly fee. It also just had your proficiency and knowledge tests, not a lot of the restrictions that are currently in place.

    =)

You need to go back and read closer. There's also a requirement for twice yearly qualification/proficiency shoots and a psych eval

I guess I am getting something for my fee! heh. Still worth it. Like others have said, pass this, then make it more reasonable.

Yeah...you need to read some more...

The $500 does NOT include the fees for the psych eval and bi-annual proficiency.

    AND

They can still put restrictions on the permit.

The court may at its discretion issue a limited-type
permit which would restrict the applicant as to the types of
handguns he may carry and where and for what purposes such
    handguns may be carried

I wonder though, why would the court be involved though, as it no longer has to go to a Judge for approval?
