Default Re: Halls-Pennsdale Gun Show Sept 25-26 2010

I stopped at Pennsdale for a couple hours on the way to Allentown to visit my daughter in college. My first time to this show, and I would not drive 2.5 hrs one way to go again, but like yesterday if I was passing nearby I'd stop.

It seems to me that the farther east in PA the show venue, the prices on guns and ammo tend to increase. I was genuinely shocked at what some vendors thought were reasonable asking prices. A new Marlin 336 for $585???? Also, everything is now "rare!" or "scarce!". Another really hammered Marlin 336 in 35 Remington had "first yr production" on the tag, presumably to justify the $400+ price. The rust, wood dents, and missing blueing was included at no extra charge.

Fortunately, I find this eastern PA pricing structure advantageous when I wish to sell, and I had no problem selling two rifles yesterday at my price points.

One vendor had eleven 50-rd boxes of Federal 40 S&W, 180 gr, not price marked. I asked, he said $14.50 a box, and I countered with $150 for all eleven and he took it. My local dealer has $17 a box on his, and two other vendors at Pennsdale had the same stuff priced at $20.99, and $22.99. I guess they haven't heard the Scare of 2008 is over . . .

But as usual, that's only my opinion and the vendors are free to choose to charge what they want for their merch. They have expenses and know the margins they need to make it happen for them. They have to make a profit to stay in business, but they don't have to make it from me. Seriously, many of these dealers should not wonder why at the end of the day cobwebs grew between them and their tables.
