    Default The $1000 Question....

So, with my wedding coming up next week, my mom decided to give us our present early. Now, I have money to spend .

I'd like to get some optics for my AR. Now, I know I could get an Aimpoint, but I find it hard to justify a $700 optic. I know it'd be the last one I would ever need, but, I just have qualms about spending that much on 1 item. I mean, I could also get ammo, mags (have 5 right now), and maybe a pocket gun too! (Though, I may be persuaded to buy an expensive optic ).

Basically, I'd like to get a scope (may try hunting in the future, when I get a rifle, lol, mostly for 100yrd ranges for plinking), and/or a red dot sight.

Scopes I'm thinking about are http://www.opticsplanet.net/bushnell...s-713949i.html and http://www.opticsplanet.net/bushnell...4s-733960.html.

For the red dot sight, I haven't looked too much, but an Aimpoint I just found that looks nice is http://store.valueweb.com/servlet/ma...s/Detail?no=11.

The only thing I have no idea about, is what kind of mounts I need. For the red dot, I'd like to co-witness with my front post, which is a mil-spec F marked front sight. Scope, ideally, I'd like to go above the front sight, but I don't have any idea how feasible this is, or if it even makes a difference.

I know I could afford something like a leupold, but again, its hard for me to justify spending that much, when I could use that to buy a buttload of ammo, lol.

So, throw some ideas at me! If you have items that are comparable, or know that some are not good quality, I wanna know! . Basically looking for lower-tier price, great quality and features.

    Thanks!

Haha, I shut her up with her share of the gift. I don't criticize what she buys, she doesn't criticize what I buy.

    Thanks!

I'm wondering if this is what your mom had in mind when she "decided to give us our present."

She said to have fun with it. I think that means we're safe.

I'm interested in everyones response on your question too. I will be watching this thread.

The only thing I am thinking is you might want to step the scope up a bit 3x9 isn't gonna get you out that far. Maybe I'm wrong, standing by for the responses.

I like this for the red-dot route, I don't have any experience with it but it does get good reviews:

I've been searching online, and I've pretty much fallen in love with a larue combo. http://stores.homestead.com/Laruetac...hpath=75591732

Going to wait a couple days for other people to respond though!

Well if you want to buy the optic then you might as well buy it now if you have the money. If you are going to eventually get one then you'll be making that big purchase regardless just depends when it happens.

But ammo and mags are also a good ideas can't go wrong with that them.

First off, congratulations. I wish you both a long and happy life together.

With that said, I'm feeling old and paternal tonight. Having started out our married life in the red and not the black, I recommend that you both squirrel away your money for one of those rainy days that have a tendancy to pop up unexpectedly like when you suddenly need to put a down payment on that new car or new transmission or new home heater etc.

Married life is a lot happier when you aren't squabbling over who spent the most money on frivalous expenditures like cute shoes, daily large coffees at Starbucks, etc.

Good luck with it (and sorry for being such a fuddyduddy)

Haha, thanks! We're excellent at talking to each other. We're really open to each other about finances, and we talk and plan it all out before we do any spending, which is better than most couples, lol.

Of course, that doesn't mean it can't/won't happen in the future. And of course, that's what married life is about right? haha

    Thanks again!
