Default Bullet moved out of case/revolver ftf

I had my Bulldog .44 at the range yesterday. I fired about 25-30 rds with no problems and it shot well. Then while firing another cylinder full a bullet moved out of the case causing the weapon to bind up. The cylinder did open easily though.

This was ammo from Minuteman Arms Ammunition I picked up at a gun show in Greencastle~~stuff fired very well otherwise. (I'll fire the rest of it from my Redhawk next time.)

I've not had this happen with factory ammo (I've only used silvertips in the past) with this gun and in fact have never experienced this. It makes me wary now to use this revolver. Are my concerns valid? The recoil was very stiff and seemed hotter than Winchester Silvertips but it had been a few years since I'd fired this so that is subjective analysis (I wish I'd brought the box of silvertips with me).

    Thanks.

bad crimp maybe? just check bullets before shooting. a properly crimped bullet shouldnt move.

IMHO the problem would be not enough crimp. This is accented by the light weight and accelerated recoil of the Bulldog.

Just make sure your ammo is roll crimped properly into the canular. Heavy loads, light crimps, and light weight guns area recipe for bullet jumps in revolvers.

Crimps will add a little more pressure, but usually the make more consistent velocities with less deviation.

So I should be able to visibly see the crimp, maybe compare to a standard factory load?

And I shouldn't expect this to happen on a heavier gun like the Redhawk even if the crimp isn't strong enough?

It may happen too with heavier guns if you dont control the recoil well.

44spl control in the big Redhawk isn't an issue~~upon close inspection there does not appear to be a crimp on this ammo. Wish I had a .44 barrel for my Contender lol.

Revolver rounds should have easily seen crimp on them. They headspace on the rim and not the case mouth. It sounds like they were not crimped right.

Dont be so quick to blame your bulldog, it has nothing to do with the gun, as the others have pointed out uncrimped ammo in a fast recoiling gun is the culprit, it can happen too in your redhawk, always use quality ammo if evaluating a weapon, there is a reason why it doesnt happen with your silvertips- they cost twice as much and are 3 times better.

Never use uncrimped ammo in your carry gun ,btw it can also happen in semi-autos too.
The only uncrimped ammo i carry for self defence is Winchester rangers, but i thoroughly tested them and they do not move.
